Illustrated children book
Mom, toy, ball, snow, home… What words can capture and describe a child’s world? What is important to a little person when they are, say, four? What of what surrounds him or her will be inscribed in his or her memory as a key memory? And what will be its colour and mood?
Poet and prose writer Olga Stehlíková has compiled a poetic Interpretive Dictionary for children and their adults. One double-page, one entry, one illustration. And behind them a whole world of emotions, details, memories and associations. Some of the entries will make you slap your forehead: How come I didn’t think of this before?! Others will warm your heart with a fond memory. But all of them will give you something to think about and talk about together. Not to mention that you and your children may start to look at ordinary things a little differently.
Watercolour collages add another dimension to the book. In some places they are spare and minimalist, in others they are bursting with life and detail, because after all “all treasures are in the clay”.
