Rya rug handwoven with 48 shades of yarns, dyed with plants and fungi (and their different combinations) collected from around the Vaara-Kainuu (Finland) landscape throughout 2019–2026: bilberry, marigold, nettles, woad, mixed leaves, porcini, tickseed, yellow webcap, bloodred webcap, beetroot, red onion skin, yellow onion skin, bracelet webcap, Kainuu grey wool – grey shade, Kainuu grey wool – dark brown shade, tansy, horsetail, carrot, red-gilled webcap, cinnamon webcap, rowan leaves, calendula, heather, St. John’s wort, juniper, sorrel, horsetail, goldenrod, mixed webcaps, fireweed, lady’s mantle, and alder bark.
Rya rug is part of the artwork Bed in Barn on display at Mustarinda as part of the summer program 2026 • a guest is a stranger is a visitor • Through this programme of exhibitions and events, Mustarinda reflects on how the many meanings of the word vieras/visitor can open up speculative portals to understanding Mustarinda’s role as a residency and guesthouse for a planned Art National Park.
