Bed in Barn

Installation brings together over a decade of my work with weather notes, foraging, and wildcrafting. The space is composed of textiles made from naturally dyed yarns, created using plants, mushrooms, and other materials gathered from the landscape of Paljakka hill around Mustarinda (Finland). Wall hangings, pillows, mosquito nets, curtains, bedcovers, colour charts of the hill and weather diaries form an immersive interior where visitors can encounter the outside environment from within, stay over night and dive into how the surrounding landscape soaked into the the materials used in the room.

These traces map subtle and visible changes in the local environment, reflecting the ongoing impact of climate change. The installation invites visitors to pause, rest, sense, and reflect on their own relationship to weather, place and dive into Mustarinda daily routines and chores and surrounding environment – meadows, forests, shades, hills, people of Kainuu cosmos.

The works in this Bed in Barn have been developed in close dialogue with friends, Mustarinda members and visitors as part of an ongoing process of sharing and shaping common interests – something that forms an important foundation of many of the relationships towards this special place.
